Guidelines for Import/Export (Cross Border) of Electricity- 2018

Cross Border Trade of Electricity has been taking place with neighbouring countries under bilateral Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) / Power Trade Agreement (PTAs) for a long time. In order to facilitate and promote cross border trade of electricity with greater transparency, consistency and predictability in regulatory approaches across jurisdictions and minimize perception of regulatory risks, the "Guidelines on Cross Border Trade of Electricity- 2016  (Size 6.13 MB)  " were issued by Ministry of Power in December 2016 in consultation with various stakeholders. After receiving inputs from various stakeholders, a need was felt to revise the same. Accordingly new "Guidelines for Import/ Export (Cross Border) of Electricity- 2018"  (Size 753 KB)  have been issued by the Ministry of Power on 18.12.2018 after due consultation with the stakeholders.
 
The objectives of these guidelines are to:
a. Facilitate import/ export of electricity between India and neighbouring countries;
b. Evolve a dynamic and robust electricity infrastructure for import/ export of electricity;
c. Promote transparency, consistency and predictability in regulatory mechanism pertaining to import/ export of electricity in the country;
d. Reliable grid operation and transmission of electricity for import/ export.
